The story of the butterfly

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly.
One day a small opening appeared.
He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours
as it struggled to squeeze its body through the tiny hole.
Then it stopped, as if it couldn’t go further.

So the man decided to help the butterfly.
He took a pair of scissors and
snipped off the remaining bits of cocoon.
The butterfly emerged easily but
it had a swollen body and shriveled wings.

The man continued to watch it,
expecting that any minute the wings would enlarge
and expand enough to support the body,
Neither happened!
In fact the butterfly spent the rest of its life
crawling around.
It was never able to fly.

What the man in his kindness
and haste did not understand:
The restricting cocoon and the struggle
required by the butterfly to get through the opening
was a way of forcing the fluid from the body
into the wings so that it would be ready
for flight once that was achieved.

Sometimes struggles are exactly
what we need in our lives.
Going through life with no obstacles would cripple us.
We will not be as strong as we could have been
and we would never fly.

So have a nice day and struggle a little and teach well.

  8. It was the most beautiful message!
    Congratulations by the image too.
This touched my very deep emotions, so I decided to make a song out of it.

The text says the story’s from an unknown author, but I did not understand one of two things: the people who write this down choose not to identified himself, or it’s and old story, that none can tell who the author was?
If the story was written by yourself, it would be ok for you, if I write a song based on it?

Ps: Sorry for the bad english…I’m Portuguese! 🙂

  10. Very true! I learned the lesson when I did what the man in the story did. Thought that I was helping, I was mistaken! The same is true when giving advice, let us remember that we only give advices when they are asked.

  13. This story is inspiring. The picture is cute.
The story calls to mind the biblical injunction that we should ask, seek, and knock if we need anything from God. God is all-knowing and knows all that we need even before we realise we have such need. He also has all it takes to supply our needs abundantly but He wouldn’t do that until we request.
Some difficulties are needful even though not palatable. May God’s grace sustain and see us through such moments and give us reason to look back and rejoice over the situation.
Difficulties are life’s examinations. They are sine-qua-non for promotion.

    Thanks for the story.

    Best regards.
    Famous.
